FHM Races The Sun!
Introducing a unique, proudly South African FHM story: FHM Races The Sun!
The idea: The FHM Team in the famous FHM Mini leaves Durban at sunrise. Their challenge? To reach the Atlantic Ocean in Cape Town before the sun sets on the same day! It needs to be done without speeding, through cunning and efficient time management and route selection. From Durban to Cape Town in a day! Has it ever been done? Can it be done? Which route do you choose? It’s already getting on in the year, and the days are shrinking. But the holiday traffic is gone, so the FHM team is planning to head down to Durban next week. Just as soon as the sexy FHM Mini gets back from its service!
FHM Races The Sun is the next instalment in FHM’s proudly SA series of road challenges. Our last one was “Round SA in a Day”, in which we visited all nine of South Africa’s provinces within one 24-hour period. We managed it with about an hour to spare. We then challenged FHM readers to do the same, and they did! In the current February 2010 FHM, the FHM Readers Rule section features the story of Brent Botha and his lawyer mates, who managed to visit all nine provinces in a mere 17 hours and return with photographic evidence.
We’ll be filming and photographing FHM Races The Sun and providing live updates on fhm.co.za, so FHM fans will be able to follow our progress online. Our calculations show that the sun rises in Durban just after 5am these days, and sets around 8pm in Capeys. That makes 15 hours or less. And the distance is about 1 650km. So it’s gonna be tight! But it’s possible! It’s a tantalising challenge, and FHM are never guys to shrink for one of those.
So we’re off. Next week. Check how we do, on fhm.co.za!
